The December vernissage and fundraising auction dinner on behalf of Mentor at CFHILL brought in more than 4 million SEK to invest in youth and society. The auction dinner, sponsored by SEB, was in the presence of H.M. Queen Silvia, Mentor’s founder and honorary President and Chairman.
The generous auction donors (listed below) included fine art, jewellery, decoration, travel, food and entertainment. There was also a fabulous surprise musical performance by the fantastic Carola Häggkvist.
The dinner and auction took place in CFHILL‘s exhibition titled “Mentors” curated by Sandra Weil. The exhibition highlighted the need for “social impact” via “societal mentoring” and included subjects such as the controversial evictions of Bedouins in Israel, American slavery history, deforestation, riots, refugee deaths in the Mediterranean and the situation of indigenous peoples. Artists included Olafur Eliasson, Barbara Kruger and Marie-Louise Ekman.
The event also announced a cooperation between Moderna Museet’s art educator Maria Taube and Mentor. Together they will run a series of youth art workshops for Mentor youth. Five workshops will be held for young people aged 13–17 to learn the connection between image and language and also get insight into the career field of art and museums.
SEB also took the opportunity to sponsor a series of mingles to help raise awareness for Mentor and the power of youth mentoring, with a special focus on youth mentoring programs in Sweden.
